These things are beautiful. I thought the ultralight backpackers would like this one!

very nice. How much extra did you have to pay for the vanity plate? Does a portion go to the ATC?

Awesome. I'll probably get one depending on NC's policy for military and taxes. (I don't pay any property taxes when I renew in SC - saves me several hundred dollars a year.)
Why does it expire in August if you just got it today?

The AT plate is $30 extra each year. For personalization it's another $30. $20 is given to the ATC for the AT plate, so getting that is definitely worth it.
Your plate renews the month you normally renew (ordering a new one doesn't change this). I purchased mine after renewing for the year because you can't order a new plate once you've been issued a notice that your plate renewal is ready. So I renewed my original plate, waited, then ordered the custom one a couple months later. Confusing and stupid, I know, not my rules.
