The Great Southeastern Hiking Festival (http://www.americanhiking.org/alliance/sai/festival.html) is planned for May 3-6, 2007 at Montreat Conference Center in Montreat, NC. The weekend will be filled with hikes, great local entertainment, education sessions, and inspirational speakers. It is presented by American Hiking Society and co-hosted by the Carolina Mountain Club, NC Bartram Trail Society, Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail, Nantahala Hiking Club, and the Montreat Trail Club.
Registration will be open in January with an estimated fee of $150 which includes 9 healthy & hearty meals and all activities.
Right now I'm looking for proposals for educational sessions at the conference. The educational tracks are;
Conservation & Environmental Education
Hiker Safety
Hiking “How To” Skills
Sustainable Trails
Volunteerism
If you are interested in submitting a proposal to present at the conference, you can do so at the following link;

I have some limited funding to defray travel, food & lodging expenses for speakers addressing the first two topics listed above. Submitting a proposal does not guarantee that it will be accepted, or that expenses will be provided. Those decisions will be made by a committee in December/January.
I'm hoping that some folks in the Whiteblaze community will have an interest in submitting a proposal. Send me a PM or call me at 423-266-2507 if you have any questions.
Thanks!
Jeffrey Hunter
