Hey guys! I just joined whiteblaze today and I am looking for a hiking partner in the Atlanta area. I am planning a thru-hike of the FHT for spring break of 2007. If anyone is interested or has any hiking tips, please let me know. Thanks!
:welcome C-Dog. A few of us are starting next weekend if you can get the time off. Oherwise I'm sure you'll be able to line up a partner come next spring. In the meantime, just browse around you'll pick up plenty of tips and ask away to get answers to specific questions.

I'll bite. What's the FHT?
Hey, thanks for the input. I can't get off next weekend, I've got finals coming up. I actually just finished the first section this weekend at Ceaser's Head State Park and it was so beautiful! It makes me want to drop out of college and be a professional hiker, but I don't think that will provide a viable source of income :). Anyway, thanks for the help and let me know how it goes.
Its the Foothills Trail in South Carolina, it runs along the SC/NC border.

BTW, one thing you've got to admit is there are a BUNCH of great trails around here. I'm trying to work out a scheme to hike the Alabama Pinhoti this December.
LOL.. I'm not sure what it's like YET. I've heard from boring, to insufferable, to great. I imagine its somewhere in there. I'll let you know.
Its really amazing, because of the elevation change between NC and SC you get alot of waterfalls and lakes. The climb is pretty hard, but the views are well worth it
The only problem is that it is so so wet, it never dries out.
I may be in for the APT if you're looking for a partner.

All kidding around aside, we may need to call a meeting of the APTHT* at Nik's this weekend.
*APTHT = Alabama Pinhoti Trail Hiking Team. I'll knock of the acronyms when ya'll do.
There' a goal no one has probably ever thought of before... Hiking trails with every letter of the alphabet in the acronym. I've found a new mission...
Take notes, but video would be better. This weekend I'm hiking the FHT!

When is your spring break? I was thinking about doing the FHT for my spring break as well. Odds are its not at the same time as mine, first week of April, but I figured I'd try.

I am also looking to thru hike the Alabama Pinhoti in December. This past weekend (Nov 18-19) I did the 17 mile loop in the Cheaha Mtn area, Pinhoti / Chinnabee / Skyway Loop. This weekend I'm going back for a few day to do the cave creek, nubbin, pinhoti. I purchased the full set of maps at the Cheaha Mtn country store.
If December is a no go then I will do it in the spring.

Adder and I have done the APT -it was great, and this weekend if all goes well we might finish the GPT (except for a road stretch around Dalton).
Then, naturally, we'll contunue our sectioning saga up the BMT, which crosses the AT a buncha times, also the DRT and then of course the LST.
We are enoying the low key off-AT HYOH style, although there aren't as many AYCE's along the way, we hardly need them since we've been reduced to Weekend Warriors as of late, while we store our kryptonite in a secret cave along the BT near Warwoman's Dell. Soon enough, we'll have plenty for the CDT, ADT, PNT, and who knows maybe even the Haydude Trail. Oh yeah, and then how can we forget the FHT? Just Jeff had some good things to say about it. He has a journal on it.

Just a reminder, hiking the Pinhoti this time of year, you better be wearing your blaze orange! Im hiking the Pinhoti in March, it falls between deer and turkey season!

n2o2diver, I'm going to heat up a thread I've got going at Alabama Pinhoti (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18911) for planning my little excursion.
Wookie, do you have a journal, trail report or anything going on the Georgia section? That'd be a natural follow up for the 'Bama Pinhoti.
