As you can tell by the number of my posts I am still a newb, although I always thought it was more like 35 miles:rolleyes: . Being in the woods enjoying life and nature have nothing to do with being a true hiker. It's all about the miles baby.

Not again, another mindless Lobster thread....

I'm afraid that this one isn't going to get you the controversy hit that you crave. It's sad that you need attention so bad that you resort to this. I feel sorry for you.

The trail community will embrace those that love hiking. You don't have to be

I think alligator and subsequently Lone Wolf are poking fun at the macho bs that sometimes breaks out around here.

Don't forget the importance of expensive gear. Everyone knows to be consideered a true hiker you have to rock the good brands made of all the new space age polymers.

I would say two and half miles is the minimum distance one can go before it is called a hike....

Just Jeff

And the importance of post counts. You can only be a REAL hiker if you have a high post count. Preferably about unsubstantial topics.

And as far as 20 miles a day, a real hiker does that before breakfast. ...What?!?! :D (Oh Yeah, you gotta use the green *&#eating grinning face in your inane posts.):D

Iz you be a real hiker or iz you ain't? A real hiker stretches the truth every once in a while. Why, I hiked 220 miles in one day. Then Chuck Norris drop kicked me right back to where I started. (Green $hL+eating grin right here next to dancing banana.)

It depends.

To be considered a REAL HIKER your daily miles must EXCEED your monthly posts on this site.

Lobster, you average 0.89 posts per day which gives you a monthly post total of 26.7. (The daily post info is in your profile. If the math to convert this to a monthly total is too difficult, I believe there is a "math help" forum on this website.)

Therefore, if your daily miles exceed 26.7 then you are a REAL HIKER. If your daily miles are less than 26.7 miles then you are an INTERNET HIKER.

What is your status?

One addendum.

If the pesky police insist on an illegal search of your backpack and person -- which according to some on this website is an almost daily occurance -- you can make the necessary adjustment to your hiking mileage using the standard rate of 2 miles per hour.

For example, if the illegal search of your person takes 3 hours, then you can reduce your required daily hiking mileage for that day by 6 miles.

Hope this helps.

A cavity search is most likely to occur in Hot Springs.

I don't know about being a real hiker, but once I got in shape and acclimated to the altitude in CO (about a 1000 miles into the hike), 20 miles per day was a minimum on the CDT in order to get to the northern border safely before the snow flew. The pace also allowed for a few days off.

YMMV

Yep - but you can never use that stupid banana. Anyone who uses the stupid banana is NOT a real hiker. Everyone wishing to apply for "real hiker" status must immediately cease and desist use of the stupid banana.

To be considered a REAL HIKER your daily miles must EXCEED your monthly posts on this site....

Using your math, I'd have to hike 171 miles every month. Guess I'm in trouble...

No worries - buy some expensive gear and up your post count and you'll be a real hiker in no time. Especially if you troll...I mean "start" several topics degrading others and questioning their credentials for being real hikers.
