Just have a minute to send a note to all my friends at whiteblaze. I'm in Big Bear City, about 280 miles into the
trail and loving it. 11 days to get here, so things are going well. The heat has held off: Only a couple of days in the 90s with little shade, but mostly it has been very pleasant. Southern California is more beautiful than I could ever imagine, with the majesty of the San Jacinto and San Bernadino mountains, the clarity and stark beauty of the deserts, more wildflowers than I've ever seen before, and a peace that I've been looking for for a long time. I'm heading out of town tomorrow after a zero day spent getting fat and, soon, watching the new Matrix movie. Another report sometime in the perhaps far future.
