View Full Version : Need advice on trail selection for Spring trip

I am looking for advice on the best location for about a 4 day hike next Spring. Our group of four is coming from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, so something Virginia or South would be prefereable. We are in good enough shape but not looking to test our speed and endurance on this trip.

I'd love to here personal opinions or suggested reading for identifying the section of trail we are looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would hike the Mt. Rogers/Grayson Highlands 40 mile section south into Damascus, VA. What month?

Ditto.
The only section hike I got in during 2006 was Fox Creek to Damascus and I am pleased with that choice. All section hikes should end somewhere like Damascus.

The trip will happen around May I believe - depending on a child birth. I will look for books/maps with details of that portion of the trail.

Roan Mountain is just south of Grayson Highlands and is also an excellent section.
