I wanted opinions on the Kelty Durango 5100 and Cabelas XPG 4000. Im still deciding on a first pack and these two are right size and prices are really good. Of course I realize you get what you pay for so I wanted you guys expert opinions on these packs. I want a pack to grow into 4-5 day trips. Thanks!

Hmm, the kelty pack wieghs 6 pounds, the cabela's pack weighs 4 pounds and a couple of ounces. Depends on what you are planning on carrying, but either one should work well for a 4-5 day trip. The kelty can carry more stuff with an extra 1000 cubic inches, I guess you have to figure out if that extra 1000 cubic inches is worth 2 pounds to you.

ditto what unl1988 says.

No experience with either of these packs but I do have a Kelty Red Cloud (which apears to be similarly constructed as the Durango). My Red Cloud is an early model (one of first internal frame series). It can handle a load but is heavy at 6+lbs. My base weight is currently 24s-26w but working to reduce to <16s-20w lbs with some newer gear and a lighter pack in the future. If your gear requires a large pack IMO the Kelty would be a good choice. If your ultimate goal is to go lighter I would go with a lighter pack to start with. Just make sure it fits well, is comfortable and can handle the weight you will be carrying.

Good Luck
