I did my daily check of Mt. Washington at 1315 today and was almost floored by the temp. At 1315 it was 42.8F at the summit with wind chill making it 28F. In all my years of climbing in the Whites I can't remember a balmy temp as this one for this late in the season on the summit.
Makes me want to get in my car, zip up 95, get on Rt. 16 and climb the Tuckermans Ravine trail. Knowing my luck I'll get stuck in traffic in NYC, get a speeding ticket in Conn from one of their finest troopers, almost get run over by a lunatic driver in Mass, arriving Pinkham Notch all to find out the temps are back to normal (25F with windchill of 14-18F and winds of 40-50 mph) So I think I'll just stay and check the website again tomorrow and dream of climbing.
