For Christmas I want a time machine. I doubt if I'll get it. But if I had a time machine, I'd be able to hike the AT and the rest of the family wouldn't know I had been gone 6 months. Instead, they'd think I just ran to the grocery store for more bananas :banana :banana :banana

A lightweight pack around 3800 ci that doesn't irritate my sciatic nerve (haven't found one yet...)

A down bag, 30 degree for the summer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg

An utralight jacket when the down jacket gets too warm

I just picked up a Marmot Ion jacket at Campmor for $55 (regular $100). It's only available in one color: Gawdawful Red (I think that's what it's called). This is a full-zip windshirt with a hood that weighs <3 oz. This is the current model made from Pertex Quantum -- next year's version will be made from a different fabric, and will be less expensive.

That's all I really wanted for the holidays. Oh, and a renewal on my BPL membership.

And a Trinity hammock from MLD. And a gearskin or LuxuryLite. Maybe a JRB ORM. Probably some snowshoes for the whole family. Down pants.

And the time to use them all.

What I want for christmas is the abiliy to fetch an item off the lowest shelf in the supermarket without mooning the pretty housewife or her kids in the aisle behind me. :o Since I'm not talking about a pair of suspenders, I guess I need to hike more in '07. Since I backpacked 300+ miles in '06, I guess I need to do more & longer day hikes. My '07 hiking wish list;

Florida Trail in St. Marks NWR
Bartram Trail - all of it
Weekend in Linville Gorge
5-7 days on the Colorado Trail
Walk for a week or so with Hammock Hanger during her attempted GET thru-hike

I've been wishing for a 0-20 degree synthetic sleeping bag for awhile now and on December 1st Jeff Patrick from Mt. Rogers Outfitters gave me an almost brand new Mountain Hardwear 5 degree bag that someone had given him and told him to pass it along. I am set up now to do some winter hiking.....

It's so multi-use - you could chip off smaller chunks for firestarter, you could write with it, you could paint your face like Rambo when you want to scare the section hikers out of the shelter...it's actually a pretty good pack item, if a little heavy. :D
