Are there any plans for WB'ers to go up as a group and help? I see an opportunity for an impromptu ruck...

I know my son would love too - but he's got a bum ankle right now (sprained it playing capture the flag in the dark last week). And my back won't allow me. But sure hope others can make it. Anyone hear which hut got damaged?
lets clean up the trail and pile the debri on Skyline Dr.

Great idea Dino! If someone coordinates the dates and equipment (I don't have any handsaws laying around the house at the moment) I'd be happy to volunteer my labor for a long weekend sometime between oh, say NOW and the end of March.

What dates are good for those interested in helping?
Don't debate the work that's needed here. Call PATC and volunteer! I'm sure that they have work parties planned.

Good point, but it'd be cool to be on a work crew with a bunch of WBers. Any weekend other than Jan 5-7th would work for me.

Doesn't that person mentioned realize he's got something important to do next year that requires the full cooperation of both ankles?
Maybe he should read this (http://www.trailjournals.com/baro). It's on my recommended reading list.

 Wow there is always someone that has it worse!!! Thanks!
When he hurt his ankle, he heard a pop. All I could think of was - broken ankle - AT down the drain. But today he's moving it pretty good, still limping though.

Here's an update on the status of the Appalachian Trail in the Shenandoah National Park.
As of last week the AT is clear thru the Park, with some minor clearing still ongoing in the South District. The NPS estimated that about 2,500 blowdowns were removed along the AT and another 1,000 have been removed on the side trails. We are still compiling the hours expended by PATC in removing all the blowdowns, but it will be several thousand hours.
Skyline Drive is open from Front Royal to Swift Run Gap. The Skyline Drive remains closed in the South District(Rockfish Gap to Swift Run Gap).

............
At one point, the entire Skyline Drive was closed. A portion of the drive -- about 25 miles from Loft Mountain to Rockfish Gap at Afton Mountain -- is still shut while the cleanup continues.
Park workers have spent hundreds of hours cutting up fallen trees and taking down branches overhanging the two-lane road. The park expects to spend more than $200,000 to finish the job, which may be complete by this week, though some campgrounds and trails will still need clearing.
.........
The last time an ice storm messed with the incredible Skyline Drive scenery was 1998. Cass said the damage then was more widespread.
Visitors still come up to travel the Skyline Drive in the winter, though it's always best to call the park [Skyline Drive Status (http://www.nps.gov/shen/) Call 540-999-3500, 4, 1 for latest] to make sure it's not closed because of bad weather.
