Got this email alert tonight:
:sun
The auroral activity associated with the solar event on the 13th has arrived
and everyone with clear sky in Europe and US is enjoying a great display
that started at sunset.

Another event occurred on the 14th from the same active region on the sun.
It will arrive at 2pm (the same time of day as today's arrival) on the 16th
GMT. So watch the sky tonight, the 14th, probably the 15th and again on the 16th.

I read about this earlier today and have been checking outside regularly. Nothing yet, but it's a bit overcast here in the Boston burbs.

The sky is clear here in central Iowa tonight (14th) and I got to see the most spectacular northern lights I've ever seen (they peaked around 7pm). At the height of the show all along the north horizon there was what would have looked like an irregular cloud, except it was a really cool shade of green -- kind of a cross between day-glo green and sea green. Occasionally you would see light shafts, like kleig lights, streak upwards. At times you could see denser, kind of circular small formations (again they sort of looked like clouds) rolling for a little ways across the horizon, and then disappear as fast as they formed. My wife and I were out walking our greyhounds in a nearby park at the peak of it, away from street lights, and we kept pointing at different spots in the sky, and one would say to the other, "do you see that?" And the other would point to a different spot and say, "do you see THAT." It was amazing. I wish all of you could have seen it.

Any idea how far South the auroras are visible?

Here's a great predictor/reporter:

Looks like the Mason-Dixon line is the cutoff right now.

Wow, TJ, thanks for the heads up. I've got to think that some of our many 6000+ footers down here in NC/Tenn might provide the added boost in elevation to be able to check em out. Maybe a quick trip to the BR Parkway is in order.:-?

Thank you for the notice Teej. I've never seen a good display of the aurora borealis and they don't occur often in Pennsylvania. It's high on my list of things I want to experience. I'm on it!

Checking links.

I viewed this one morning around 4:00 a.m. from Cleveland, viewing north over Lake Erie. The sky was green, wasn't quite sure what it was, and then it struck me.....I was in awe. It was brief.

Thanks for submitting the links.
