I'm hoping to find Earl Shaffer's 1948 slide show on a CD under my Christmas tree. If Santa thinks I'm deserving, I may put on my pith helmet to watch it!;)

I just got this image of someones living room full of sleeping hikers...cookie crumbs everywhere...tents hanging off chairs and fireplaces to dry...boots everywhere...the smell of funk outweighing the nice frankenscence and Pine odor...snoring...empty beer bottles...man...LOL!

Yikes.:D

But on that note, there are two or three I would love to 'unwrap' on Christmas morning. hehhehe

Skipper and Paul Bunyan, of course (but they will be there anyway, grabbing the gifts).

Would love to have met Ed Garvey who got me hooked on the AT back when he released his first AT hiker book in the 70's. When I was young I carried that thing around with me everywhere. Still read it once a year.

Well, screw it. If it has to be male hiker, I nominate Bill Bryson. I don't care what the purists say. The guy is wicked smart and intensely funny. Just another "chubby section hiker". (To use L. Wolf's very apropos description.)

I refuse to answer on the grounds that I might incriminate myself...well, not really incriminate, but from a moral point of view....Lets just say that there were two hikers in particular, that in 1995 just knocked my socks off. Don't remember their real names and one of them I can only see her face in my memory..can't even remember her trail name. Oh well. Thanks for dragging up those memories...can't even let a guy put his old lusts behind him. grumble, grumble grunt.

Me too!! I must have read his book a hundred times. Then when I finally headed out in 2001, I gifted it to another thru-hike potential, KTR (kick the rocks). Great book, I would have like to have met him as well.

Funny. My wife just brought home a copy, a week back, from the library book sale. Prolly paid fifty cents. I think I read it years ago, as part of the big Rodale Press anthology. PM me with your meat address and it's yours.

I can pee standing up too! But I have to be wearing the right shorts. I remember Fennel - she was pretty cool. Actually the entire class of 2000 was pretty damn cool!

There are ALOT of hikers i'd like to see under my tree. But alot of good it would me since it looks like I'm already stuck under a few treees myself.

Happy Holidays to ALL
