Yeah, saw that. There's little doubt in my mind that his personal life was a mess. At the same time I don't think anyone with a shred of sense can deny his influence on popular music. I think my favorite JB tume was "Papa's got a new bag."

May he rest in peace.

Definitely one of my favorite musicians. I saw him at Bonnaroo in '04. He was past his prime but still entertaining. If you want to see James Brown in all his glory, rent a copy of When We Were Kings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_We_Were_Kings). Awesome film! Great concert footage.

"GET UP OFF OF A THAT THING" ...James Brown's inspiration to hikers !!

I was there the night he performed live at the House of Blues adjacent to Centennial Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics ...the night the bomb went off.

I live in Aiken South Carolina acroos the river from augusta georgia and a stones throw from James Brown' home in Beech island South carolina. I use to see him out at dinner quite a bit. Interesting guy who gave back to the community where he was born . The day before he died he bought and distributed gifts to needy kids in the community. He did this every christmas and at thanksgiving he purchased and handed out turkeys for needy families. He had his demons but I think JB had a good heart.

a musician friend of mine said j.b. had so much energy and stamina on stage he used to wear out the drummers!

Clayton Fillyau on playing in the James Brown show:
"I've been on shows where we had five drummers and believe me, when you hit the stage there would be no messin' around, cause when James Brown pointed his finger at you ... that next beat, you better be there!"

End of an era. So when he arrives in Heaven, does he break out into "I feel good!"

Who's to say he'll make it to heaven. He is said to have murdered one of his wives in California years ago and they did'nt have enough evidence to convict.
My Aunt alleges that he raped her back in the late 80's. She has tried to sue him for years with no luck. Guess that's over now.
Other than that, he had some nice songs.

One of the several attractions of my stay at the Hard Time Hollow in 1993 was that Rusty played James Brown on his truck stereo loud and often. (The hollow had no electricity then)

he had many Nashville ties...radio station WLAC gave him his start in 1956 (John R. playing "Please, Please, Please") & our TV station (WTVF-TV) giving him a video spotlight in the early days on the R & B show: "NightTrain" (with legendary host Otis Blackwell).

JB was so energetic during his shows that he would lose lbs ! Very influencial artist, he opened the door that led to such things as Michael Jackson, disco, rap, etc. Definintely a giver , always donating to charities and to poor kids esp in his georgia home area. Had problems with drugs his whole career but most musicians do, its goes with the territory. I admired and respected his work and am sad to see him pass. RIP JB.

Whenever i hear James Brown, it reminds me of the truck dancing at
Rusty's in '95 and: "Why don't everybody get up and do MY Thang" Get on up! He will be missed Big Time! What energy, and musicianship!

Can't make it sorry :( But I heard that Stumpknocker dude is going to be there. I saw him in some movie with him wearing a green suit and dancing away. He would make ol' James mighty proud. :D

What's Rusty listening to these days? Britney Spears?

Great music is eternal!
