Right now I have the NatlGeo map which is a little bit too big and maybe doesnt have enough detail of Linville Gorge. I would get one there but I think the station is closed so there might not be a way to get a map. Ive looked through google some to no avail. If someone has a good map of the area and a scanner could you scan it for me?

The USDA FS sells a map of Linville Gorge. I picked mine up at REI for 6.95. Is there an REI in Charlotte?

I don't have a way of scanning it, BTW. Hope the info helps.

Contact the U.S. Department of the Interior. They have maps depicting different land features of the entire country in several different scales. I bought maps of every area I hunted. Some areas I obtained in two different scales.

If they’ve reorganized and no longer offer these, Interior should be able to direct you to the current Department which does offers these.

When me and my buddies would backpack the Gorge we took topo maps purchased at the local backpacking store(Footsloggers in Boone)but atraildreamer's got the right idea. The Mountains to Sea Trail also swings thru the Gorge and the available trail guide book on it covers the Gorge section though the map is pitiful. It really helps to have a full color topo to use even if all the trails aren't marked.

All you have to do to modify (resize) the map linked in my previous post is to go to the left side of the map and pick the options that you want. You can even re-center the map by moving the cursor to the new desired center point of the map and left clicking. :)

The only thing I don't like about TopoZone is the fact that you have to print out the map to save it. You cannot save it as a file unless you subscribe to their premium service.

I appreciate the map, Veteran, but the file save drops out all the info on the rest of the map (the borders), such as grip name, mag declination, etc. (I know...everyone cuts off the borders on their maps anyway! :D )

They do allow you to link to the file on their site, but when you try to save, the file is incomplete.

Anyone know how to get around this (hack!..hack!...excuse me..got a cold coming on! ;)) and get the whole file?

such as grip name,

That should read "grid name". :o
