Yes it was cold and windy. I soloed Franconia Ridge today. The Arctic blasts didn't start until coming around the corner at GreenLeaf Hut. The summit cone on Lafayette was 5 degrees F with 40 MPH winds gusting to around 60. Once up on the ridge with the wind at your back it was pretty nice in the bright sunlight. Left the parking lot in the Notch at 9:00 AM, arrived back at 4:20 PM. Bare booted all the way to Falling Waters trail. Attached the Grivels to my boots for the down stuff. Drifts of around three feet in places, otherwise just lots of hard windblown snow and ice. Soloing is pretty much a misnomer since there were about 20 people on the mountain today. Could see into VT, NY, and ME. I love it here!

How lucky you are. Hiking around here really sucks.
