Is it still necessary to carry both the Thru-hiker companion and the AT Databook or has the information from the Databook been incorporated into the Companion for 2007?

:welcome to WhiteBlaze, Renee!
The Companion has detailed Databook-style info (the data is from the ATC/Databook source) but the Databook has much more detail. Use the Companion for planning ahead, and carry pages from both books for each section you're hiking. I carry maps too, even on the sections I've hiked dozens of times.

What kind of details are in the databook that are not in the companion?

The Companion has all the major info, the DataBook just lists many more data points along the way.
