In two words, not good.

In a lot more:

Damage from the ice storm on 11/23/06 is still being cleaned up. Skyline Drive is open in the North and Central Districts, but is closed in the South District.

As far as I am aware, the AT is clear,(or at least passable) throughout the park, but don't count on any of the side trails being clear without first-hand information otherwise. Some who live closer to the park than I (Skyline) could give better intel. You can call the park at (540) 999-3500 for the most up-to-date information they have, but they may not know about all the side trails.

The storm didn't actually knock over too many trees (like Isabel did), but it chopped the top off of a good number. Imagine a giant beard trimmer going over the park. It seems to be worse at higher elevations, too.

There'a lot of dead lumber on the ground that's going to become fuel for next year's forest fires, so expect some strict fire restrictions.

Anyway, it's a really awesome view, and could cause some significant changes for the park's forests.

Here is the park site (http://www.nps.gov/shen/parknews/ice_storm_closures_11_06.htm)info about the ice storm.
