With the information posted on this forum, I dehydrated a pound of hamburger and took it to Springer mountain last weekend. It only had a shelf life of two days, so I can't comment on long shelf life, but it rehydrated fine.

I soaked it in water to cover for a while, then made hamburger helper strogonoff. It took two runs of the alcohol stove to get a boil, but cooked up fine and was very tasty.

I seasoned it with "adobo" (a mexican ethnic seasoning salt) and pepper when I first cooked it, I blanched in a sieve with hot tap water and dehydrated on paper towels until none of the clumps were soft. That took maybe 6 hours.

my dehydrator is 15 ir 20 years old from a flea market. It cost less than $20 then.
