I love my new Vasque boots, but after 25 miles in them, I'm starting to experience a problem due to my overpronation. I'm getting a bit of a hot-spot on my little toe.

Is there an insole which can correct overpronation?

I agree that the Green (Trim to Fit) SuperFeet might be a good solution. Another possibility though might be to have that area of toebox enlarged by an outfitter using a rubbing bar.

When I was still fitting footwear this would occur on average to about 1 in 4 people. Part of the problem may be foot movement, which the SuperFeet will address. The other issue though could be that the area around your small toe is naturally coming into contact with the hard inner surface of the boot toebox. Sometimes just a small amount of enlargement/softening in that area of the boot will cause the irritation to cease.

Keep in mind that I have rather flat feet...should I still go with the green or try the blue instead?

Also, Will REI perform the "rubbing bar" service or would I have to go to another outfitter?

The color doesn't have anything to do with the nature of your arch. That's about whether they are being used in hiking footwear versus everyday style footwear.

Can't speak for all REI stores but the one I worked at had a rubbing bar built into the fitting bench we used. I made extensive use of that rubbing bar over the 5 years I fitted footwear. Not all stores are staffed with personell who are trained and knowledgeable in the finer points of footwear fitting and adjustment.

Another vote for Green superfeet. I have a tendency to supinate (under pronate) on the right foot only -- superfeet insole have made a huge difference in my comfort level.

I never really believed my REI colleagues about Superfeet. Many swore by them for hiking, running, and working. After about a year working there, I would get terrible pains in my thighs and lower back after standing behind the registers all day long and it literally felt like the bones in my feet were caving in. I started to think that I would have to go see a specialist because if I can't stand for 8 hours, how am I going to be able to hike the AT?

About 2-3 weeks ago, I bit the bullet and bought a pair of green Superfeet. The difference was almost immediately apparent. Gone is the lower back pain (it used to be so bad that when I sat down after a shift, I would have to hold my breath to keep from screaming as it felt like all the little vertebrae in my spine were compressing), gone is the foot pain, and gone is the thigh pain. I even wear them while roller skating now! They really are a life saver. I know this sounds like an ad for Superfeet, and I know that they simply don't work for everyone, but I do urge you to try them. You can always return them to REI if they don't work for you.

I couldn't hack the stiffness of the green Superfeet, ended up hiking with the 'casual' blue ones..
