Probably the single greatest invention for reducing backpacking weight and reducing the cost of packable food, the instant noodle or commonly known as 'ramon noodles'. The inventor of which has just passed away:

I think we should all have a moment of silence for this Japaneese inventor.....

Probably the single greatest invention for reducing backpacking weight and reducing the cost of packable food, the instant noodle or commonly known as 'ramon noodles'. The inventor of which has just passed away:96 years old and died with his boots on, doing what he loved. Cheers, no tears from me.

And it's 'Ramen'. Ramon noodles are 80's punk noodles from New York.

Ramon Noodles were on the order of 30% of my meals (generally most of my dinners). At the start of the hike I ate them 'as is' with just the seasoning packet(salt) Sarting in the south with ramps (sp?) by the end of the thru-hike I was adding anything I had and I could to them. A couple of hikers I saw were eating the ramon noodles raw, one spreading peanut butter over them then just crunching down. I don't know if they used the seasoning packet :)

ramon noodles make the world go round....
