Ok, I know it's not the AT, but they cross and I am in need of some info, and recomendations. I am planning a Boy Scout bike trip along the VA Creeper Trail from White Top to Abbington and would like some info on outfitters and does any one know of a place to camp along the way?

Much Thanks,
Bubba

Bike outfitter or backpacking or both. Camping on the Creeper or close by? How many scouts?

As for the trail, make sure no cyclist attempts it with a road bike. It will be destroyed 1/2 way down. I would also put a leader in front, as the 17% grade will allow your yahoos to take off and you might not see them for hours. You literally pedal 10% of the time from WhiteTop Station to Damascus.

It is also worth going the 1 mile+ south the the TN line (opposite direction from WhiteTop).

Plenty of campgrounds around the trail operated by the Forest Service or VA State Park system (by car not bike)....

I've traveled the eastern 1/2 of the U.S. for these Rail-Trails, & this is hands down the best....

Bike outfitter, we would rent all of the bikes. I don't want the hassel of transporting the boys bikes. It will probablly be no more than 10 people. I would like to camp on or within riding distance of the creeper.

Creeper Trail users are allowed to use The Place hostel which is right in town next to the Creeper. Plenty of tenting on the lawn or inside sleeps around 30. Also, scouting troops are allowed to camp in town next to the river by the post office

The Place asks for a $4 per person/night donation. I think camping by the river is free. Call the town hall for info. 276-475-3831
