Just saw the news and they did a story about the current warming trend and El Nino. Showed the weather on Mt Washington and it being the 4th warmest winter. Really high winds but temps were only in 20's. Decent story. Anyone else see it?

Yea, I saw it. What I find amazing (heard on the program and have read b4 on WB) is that Mt.Washington has the worst weather on the planet. I think I'm getting this comment right,,,, the worst "something" regarding weather on the planet, highest winds maybe. I find this amazing.

Highest recorded winds... 238 mph before the anemometer broke. ;)

Terrapin_too-"Highest recorded winds... 238 mph before the anemometer broke.;)" Actually 231 on April 12,1934, and the anemometer didn't break. If it had broken, there wouldn't be a record. The anemometer was tested after the high winds to verify the record. Check this link (http://www.mountwashington.org/about/visitor/recordwind.php) for the full story.

I have seen the actual anemometer used for that record and talked with Alex McKenzie Jr.(son of one of the observers who recorded that record wind) when he and I were both at the Mount Washington Weather Observatory for the same week long work shift one winter.
