Well, I finally got up to Max Patch this past weekend for a quick overnighter. Boy was it beautiful...nothing can describe the vistas from up there. I've posted about 30 pics--all narrated--about my little trek.

Let me know whatcha think:

During the day, it was in the 50s, lots of wind. Middle of the night, it dropped to low 30s, still a lot of wind and then there was a drizzle, sleat mix in the morning.

definitely one of my favorite spots on the southern AT... have to be careful if you camp on top though...

Weather allowing, and assuming there are no trees at all on top, I may have to drop my hammock to the ground and use it as a bivy so I can camp there and watch the sunrise. Max Patch was the first place on the AT that I decided I really wanted to see someday. Thanks for the pics!

There are no trees. The closest are probably about 1/8-mile from summit north on the A.T. I would recommend camping on the summit though...it was beautiful...don't have words to describe the sunset/sunrise...too bad my camera batteries crapped out on me.

read through your captions, sounds like you caught the Appalachian bug. It doesn't take much to get hooked.

Aint that the truth!:D

I had to smile when FHThiker was talking about being excited by just setting foot on the trail. I remeber that exact same feeling when I was planning my thru and learning about the trail.

Even now after my TH, I still get an excited feeling when I pass the trail in the car or go out for a day hike. It's like seeing an old friend.
