I like the sunflower seeds but they always settled to the bottom of the bag so by the end it was mostly sunflower seeds.

I am actually allergic to any nut that grows on a tree (I can eat peanuts since they aren't technically a nut) and I was having a bit of a brain malfunction trying to come up with more things than just nuts. Thank you all for the great ideas. Allergies are so dumb.

Peanuts, cashews, almonds, M&M's, dried pineapple, mango, dates, craisins, raisins, and banana chips.

If I can't buy it all in small quantities from the bins, I'll get the Wally World tropical mix and add the M&M's, but the nuts in the mix tend to be soggy from the dried fruit.

My last real GORP bag had: mixed nuts, choclate chips, recesses pieces, peanut m&m's, small pieces of choclate cookies, dryed fruit, and cheeze flavored gold fish

I basically added anything I could find. One thing I had problems with was my gums getting sore after a few days of chomping on hard foods all day. Still working on how to get over that one.

To get away from nuts look into candy bars or cereal bars.

Backpacker Magazine had a gorp contest several years ago, that generated dozens of recipes. Here's the link to the online article:

what do you do if you can't stand raisins? I don't care for dried fruit that much either.

I did find one bag of mango, papaya and pineapple that wasn't too bad.

When making it from scatch - never the same ingredients twice. For quick GORP - Sam's Club tropical trail mix and a 12 oz can of deluxe mixed nuts. Both available from Wal-Mart in the nuts and snacks section. Regular mixed nuts will work for those who like peanuts (the male dino tummy doesn't do well with peanuts)

I always wanted to try a variation with roasted pine nuts. Gonna be a bit pricy, though.:)

You guys are making me drool! After almost two years without my top teeth, I go to pick them up from the dentist this afternoon. I will ABSOLUTELY be eating honey-roasted peanuts before dark!

Funny thing is, I broke the old teeth by trying to eat a caramel Turtle at Wallace Gap (Old 64) on a cold morning on the AT. Lesson learned, yessirree!
