I'm looking for a good hotel for when my wife brings me down to Springer in March. I'm looking for a DECENT hotel/motel, since my wife isn't into roughing it. The closest I've found so far is the Best Western Mountain View Inn, East Ellijay, GA. Does anyone know anything about it? Any other suggestions? Thanks.:)

Jim, I know that Amicalola Falls has a nice lodge -- but the rooms are sort of pricey for a state park lodge! Maybe it's really nice??!! Any chain motel/hotel around Ellijay would be good and a short drive to Amicalola/Springer.

I second the suggestion of staying with Josh and Leigh at the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega.
They are a really nice couple and are genuinely happy to have hikers there. I've stayed there twice now. They have a new cabin and it's a really beautiful place, plus there are some real nice places to eat in Dahlonega for your goodbye dinner. highly recommended.

The lodge may be a little pricey, but the view is worth it. Your wife would love it. Stay either there are the hostel, but don't try to save a few bucks by staying in some motel chain.

I can't tell you anything about the hotel except thats its the closest hotel to Springer if you get there using FS42. Plenty of restaurants in Ellijay, nothing special.

If you want a nice hotel with something to do -- are you going to spend a day sightseeing? -- I would get a room at the Smith House in Dahlonega.

My son (MrHappy) had lots of good things to say about the Hiker Hostel and owners Josh and Leigh when he stayed there a week or so back at the start of his hike. I understand they also have private rooms for a couple as well as bunk rooms.

Go for the Lodge, or see if you can rent a cottage for a last fairwell evening. The lodge has very good food, great views and is a better spot to start on the access trail than down below the falls.

There is nothing wrong with the motels around Ellijay, Dawsonville (try the North Georgia Premium Outlets) or Dahlonega. But I am certain both of you will like the accommodations in the Lodge or the cottages.

ah yes, the lodge... the night before i started, the wind was howling and the huge window showed me the cold, black wilderness i was tackling. seriously thought about going home right then!
