Okay, this might seem like a weird question, but I've seen pictures of thruhikers at Hot Springs soaking, and I'm wondering where they all got their swimsuits? I've never heard mention of anyone bringing one along, but it looks like that is what they are wearing.

I definitely want to take advantage of the Springs but I can't think of anything in my hiking wardrobe that would be appropriate.

Something to jump in the water w/in public should have been a GIMMI (give me) Mindi.......there's alot of spots you'll need something to wear in the pools & so on ...(no privacy)..

Some swim trunks make good hiking shorts.

Those tubs at Hot Springs are relatively private.. They have little fences around them and each tub is pretty far from another tub..

boy, were they even that expensive? i remember they were a decent bargain (or maybe i would have paid anything to relax my muscles).

I do remember the lady running it said the tubs were clothing optional. but what hiking clothing wouldn't work in a tub? if you can sweat in it, surely you could wear it in a tub.

where was the spa? (on the left leaving town, if YES, how far was the walk from the railroad tracks on the main street?)

2-3 minutes. It's right there across from the campground.

There's plenty of swimming holes and lakes and such along the way, too. If you don't wanna get nekkid you might wanna bring something to splash around in.

The springs are sufficiently private for you to indulge while naked as I did on a visit last October.

Hey Mindi,

I'm wearing spandex shorts under my hiking pants for chaf prevention, so those will be my swim shorts and my camisole bra will be my top. What were you planning on wearing as "under" clothing? That might work.

Wore the same ol stuff I hiked in.....You can definitely do it naked if you want as there are privacy fences around most of the units. Right across from the campground/cabins on the river, but is set back a good ways from the road.

Was anyone in Hot Springs last year when the earthquake tremble hit?

well......we don't have hot springs.........but a darn good jacuzzi. We provide "courtesy suits - mens and ladies and have a few bathrobes" otherwise - don't care, and if I look, I won't care either.

When I hiked the Grand Canyon a few years back - everyone was in Bright Angel Creek in their undies. No one packed a swimsuit. Too hot to care.

the first one to hit was a 2.6 oustide Winston-Salem, but that's not near big enough to reach all the way to Hot Springs. But I live in Winston and the first one hit at about 5:30. I jolted out of bed and thought "whoa, could that have been an earthquake???" boy was that a different experience, not that I could hold a candle to any Californians out there.

They do rent bathing suits there, for a minimal cost, I think a dollar or two. I ended up renting a bathing suit top when I shared the tub with friends (co-ed), but I didn't bother the next day when I rented a tub by myself...just ask, and they'll hook you up with whatever you'll need.

Those tubs are a MUST STOP! Don't miss them!
