So I got this box from Campmor today. yum. (or yeehaw for you grit grazers) Some like messing with stoves, I like socks. Tried a pair of Thermax liners. Hot in the house, might get me through Feburary! Have a pair of Thorlo acrylic/wool blend (not the hollow core) on now. Not sure about these fit wise, and have had poor luck with Thorlo in the last couple years. Can't get these locally, so had to try. Since Remington changed those socks at the "store," I have been looking for a good blend. Back a ways I got a pair of Smartwools called Light Hiker. Campmor lists them, but when they get here they are Light Crew. Way different animal. Two inches longer and the knit is different. (I have those origional Lite Hikers as flip flop socks.) Does what I am calling Light Hiker still exist? Could not find it on Smartwool's site. Not sure why I want them as I got a wad of my regular socks, too. Maine version of (insert favorite addictive substance) I guess. If you read this whole natterfest, and know something about the elusive Light Hikers- sound off!

Thorlo has an outlet in Statesville NC where you can get imperfects a lot cheaper than regular.. They have about 50 types of socks.. I think they changed the Light Hiker to something else.. but I used those socks and smart wools for my 05 hike.. I think the outlet in Statesville might do mail order too... I have been getting socks there for years.. They make the socks right here in NC

Another Mainer! The numbers are increasing. As far as the light hikers, I'm not sure. I wear the mid-weight smartwools every day of the week, and I know they make a light weight as well. Check EMS out for a good variety, and Beans is always good too.

Those at REI look right. I wonder if they had a pile in stock or if they also would ship the longer version like what I got. Rather not pay shipping two ways to find out. Being at the end of the retail chain can be a drag! Those polypro liners look fun too! Here I go again...

Mudhead, You spoke of Thorlos and how they fit. It happens that i got 2 pair the other day that I can't decide if I should return. These socks sure look small, right! My feet are size 8 and the socks are supposed to fit 51/2 to 81/2 feet. They seem to be tight on length. Did you find your Thorlos too short? Maybe the next size up would be too big for me.They have a nice feel to them though and I would like to keep them.

Thor-lo's used to be good but I find the heels and ball of the foot wear out too fast now.

BTW - If I recall Thor-lo used to sponsor WF on his hikes. I think I remember him with their patch or logo on the trail back during his thru-hikes.

I agree. Is this because they are worse, or other socks have gotten better? I figure some cost accountant got involved.
