Found this document at the NPS AT website:

http://www.nps.gov/appa/parkmgmt/upload/810%20EA%20schedule%20final%2010%2006.doc

and found it very interesting, in particular these items:

Bridge over the Carabassett River: Is it small enough where the trail crosses that ice won't be an issue?
Thundering Falls relo in Killington: Where is this? I can't figure it out on the Maptech maps.
Bromley (Vt.) Land Exchange: Would this move the Trail farther from the ski area?
North Adams Relo: Anyone know what this is referring to?
NE Utilities Relicensing on Housatonic: Anyone know what this is referring to?
Route 17A Crossing Relo: Finally getting rid of this awful crossing?
Walkill River Crossing: Cool! This would create another neat boardwalk and get rid of a roadwalk.
Palmerton Superfund Cleanup: Would this speed up the rebirth of the "dead zone?"
Fort Indiantown Gap expansion: How much of St. Anthony's Wilderness would this eat up?
PA Route 944 crossing: This would be the third road crossing Pennsylvania has built for hikers in recent years. If this state, which is usually pretty lame with roads, can do this, I think the PIPC can pony up for a bridge across the Palisades Parkway.
Expanding rt. 9 at Keys Gap to 4 lanes: is this still a going project?
Various I-81 expansion projects in Southwest Virginia: Man, that's a lot of lanes. :-?
New River Relo: Is this one of the stretches that isn't yet on NPS land?
There also seem to be a lot more proposals to build wind and cell towers near the AT, particularly the one near Harrisburg that would be right next to the Trail.

Site opposed to the whole Indiantown Gap thing (it appears this is not the first time the area has been considered for some kind of use):

Also found another website which suggests expanding I-80 through DWG:
