I recently acquired a used Shires Tarptent , Virga model on E-Bay. No instructions included. It took me a while, but I managed to get it setup.

Question for those familiar with this tent (or similar models): What is the quickest/ simplest way to set it up? Start at the head or the foot? I appreciate your thoughts.

See the Tarptent FAQ page, roughly halfway down.

A direct link to the PDF for the Virga/ Squall/ Rainshadow is here (http://www.tarptent.com/ttvirgasquallrainshadow04.pdf).

Start at the foot arch pole and stake it, then the front pole and stake it, then the front corners...

I have an 04 Virga, with the extended floor and extended beak. I always start my setup from the rear. Plug that stake in and then go around to get the front line up, then the 2 front side stakes. Adjust as needed.

I have a Virga and start the setup from the rear, too. I love my tarptent. and i'd definitely suggest staking down the sides. i didn't once at Addis Gap and the rain just pours down the sides and through the netting. a lot of times early in the hike you can find a couple extra tent stakes in hiker boxes.

what I did with mine is make 2" long loops for the sides and stake those down instead of using those tiny loops that are given. it raises the sides up about a half inch higher and lets a little more air circulate through the tent.

i also use the factory pole for the front and most always used a flat rock for a base because it sinks into the ground pretty easily and will sag the whole tent.

Thanks! I can't wait to take it out for a few nights.
