I was working on the ambulance this past july when I saw a hiker walking on a sidewalk in the city. He was on Main St. which is U.S. Rt. 40 heading east. Although we were at least 20 miles from any hiking trail, he looked like a thru hiker with used but good equipment. I practically grabbed the steering wheel from my partner and had him pull the ambulance over.
He was walking from Seattle to Washington D.C. and had left Seattle in February. Said that he was 38 years old and hadn't seen the Smithsonian Museum and walking was the best way to get there.
I gave him $20 and pointed out the best Italian Restaurant in town, 2 blocks away. He was so greatful. Said that he had taken no rides but had walked all highway miles, no trails. Never saw him again but giving "magic" off the trail was cool too.

Not the same guy if his route map on his site is his path. Also, picture on the site isn't him.

Just googled him, looks like this is the latest news, pretty sad:

That's too bad about that guy, sad for sure. Hope it works out for him somehow, he made a gallant effort and 100 lbs. isn't too shabby for weight loss I suppose!
