Planning my next section hike for Lehigh Gap to Kent, CN starting May 5th. Should be done by the 21st. Here in Michigan Black fly season starts middle to end of May, depending on the year. What is typical in NJ and NY this time of year? Are Black flys even a problem? Should weather be relatively good? Spring rains I assume.

Thanks,
Lyle

I've not experienced black flies in NY or CT during this time period. Mosquitoes won't be an issue as yet, either. The weather should be just about as nice as it gets all year, mild and not too hot and not too cold. Rain is always a possibility (so is some wet terrain) but IMO May is an ideal time to traverse this part of the AT. Have fun!

Weather will be fine, but bring your bug spray. There will be lots of ticks that time of year.
