Is it MOUNT Katahdin or just Katahdin? It is my understanding that calling it Mt Katahdin is redundant since the Native American interpretation is,as stated below on Wikipedia, means The Greatest Mountain. So it would be like saying Mount Greatest Mountain. What say you?

Mount Katahdin (USGS name) is the highest mountain in Maine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine). Called Katahdin by people local to the peak and by the Penobscot Indians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penobscot_Indians): the term meaning "The Greatest Mountain".

Also is it THE Batman, or just Batman?

The "official" name (as per USGS) is indeed "Mt. Katahdin" and yeah it does translate to "Mt. Greatest Mountain" (more or less). Most people just call it Katahdin, though.

It is similar to Mt. McKinley vs. Denali.

The "official" USGS name is Mt. McKinley; most people call it Denali.

I just perused my Maine Guidebook and Maps. In every instance it is referred to as simply Katahdin.

I thought the name was "baxter peak"?There are two main peaks on Katahdin, Hamlin and Baxter as well as 3 lesser north peaks.

Also is it THE Batman, or just Batman?

Usually just Batman. THE Batman is usually added for emphasis by some villian. For example: "My plans have been foiled again by The Batman! Drat!!"

That was intentional.
