Can anyone make me a mini pot holder/picker upper? I am sick of burning my fingers on those little handles! I just need it to go on my Thumbs, First (is it the index?)and middle finger. Im not a sewer but, I can send ya some money! I have burnt up many bandanas by usingthem...maybe some sort of flame retardant material? :-? Ideas--anything?

go to any dollar store, find a silicone "pot holder thingies" (the ones you put a hot casserole on) cut a small 3"x4" piece and voila!

Another alternative is to buy a small silicone pad from a kitchen store and then cut it down to fit the bottom of your pot. You can use it to pick up a hot pot, keep it from burning into the "countertop", wrap it around a hot pot to hold it while you eat, and even use it as a lid if it's cut correctly. A little more expensive than the other options, but multi-purpose.

All good options. Thanks!

Rockstar,

Since your pot has handles here's another idea:

http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16326&highlight=handles

The other thing you could do is tape off everything but the handles and spraypaint a few layers of High-temp engine enamel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002KL3CW/ref=olp_product_details/104-9630614-8336739?ie=UTF8&seller=). You can find it at Wal-Mart and any auto parts store.

Keep in mind that the probable reason your bandanas are burning up is because part of it is hanging in the flames. HOI's folding suggestion will solve this.

Also Wal-Mart now carries the Ove-Glove (http://www.oveglove.com/). A bit heavy though.

Lastly, Consider using a stove that doesn't send so much flame up the side. A little is good, but if it's making your handles that hot, you may want to dial it down a bit. :)

I use an alcohol stove but, am gonna start using the Super Cat instead of a pepsi can which is smaller but, does the same if not more work. THANKS though...im gonna try that enamel!

Best idea I heard of was the thumb and forefinger cut from an old leather glove.

The individual pieces can be hard to keep track of. Leather finger guards (http://www.kidbow.com/images/products/tab_glove/glove_2270.jpg) are a bit more manageable, but are heavy and only serve one purpose compared to bandanas, wool gloves, etc. that may be carried anyway and can serve double duty.

I guess Ill get a few things and try em out, I can always just use the bandanas.

You won't get us to stop arguing about it that easily. ;)

I use half of one of those green scotch brite pads. Don't burn real easy, won't hang down into the flames, and can be used to clean the pot afterwards. Actually works real good with keeping your hands from getting hot. All the air in the pad insulates your hand.

It will burn a little. I held a lighter up to one the other day, but once the flame was taken away it stopped burning.

The version I saw left the pieces attached. I think it was in reference to a Heineken pot stove.
