View Full Version : Looling for shuttle to/from Fontana Dam 3/12

I'm looking to do a ~40 mile NOBO section next week. I'd like to park my car at Fontana Dam, then get a shuttle back to ... well approximately Cold Spring Shelter, but I have no idea what road crossing that would be.
My questions:
1) Is there a safe place to park at Fontana Dam? I've never been there.
2) Where can I get a shuttle, and what will it cost?
3) If this is a bad idea, do you have a better suggestion for a section in that area where I can get a shuttle?
4) Are gear prices at NOC and/or Neels Gap competitive? I need to buy some kit, and my store here in Florida doesn't have much selection on cold-weather stuff.
1) Yes there is. LOt's of it.
2) The Hike Inn. Jeff and Nancy 828.479.3677. shuttle will run arounf $ 75ish?
3) Burningtown Gap is the crossing prior to Cold Spring.. Another option would be Dick's Creek Gap to Wesser, NOC.
4) NOC not so much./ Neel's Gap, yes, plus you get years and yaears of experience helping you make good choices.

Don't expect any bargains at either one. REI has three stores in the greater Atlanta area, if that might suit your travel plans.
