I read on WhiteBlaze.net there isn't anything to see in eastern Pennsylvania.

Isn't Hawk Mountain (http://www.hawkmountain.org) located in The Green Diamond, otherwise known as beautiful Berks County, PA? Last time I was there, it was just a short walk uphill from Eckville to their visitor's center.:D

It's too bad I don't have a film scanner because if I did I'd digitize a few Kodachromes shot from Hawk Mountain's north lookout for those who've never been there. The view from that spot of The Pinnacle is as good as good gets!

Those who would like to view some Wyeth paintings can visit Brandywine River Museum (http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/) also in eastern Pennsylvania at Chadd's Ford. It's a bit farther than Hawk Mountain, but well worth travelling there for those who enjoy such things.

Well, you shouldn't believe everything you read.

Isn't Brandywine River Museum the place where they've got those exquisite native wildflower plantings (http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/gardens.html#sale)? I heard they have an incredible native plant sale there every spring too.

Yes, SoG, I go to that plant sale every year.;)

No, I don't think you're hallucinating Spork. It definitely looks like SoG responded to his own post.

Thanks Spork, that's what I thought......:D

PS Both Spork and I heartily agree about the beautiful views from Hawk Mt and The Pinnacle, Right here in our own back yard!

Hawk Mountain is actually off the trail. It's worth the visit, but very few hikers take the time to explore the place. Spring & Fall is the best time to see migrating raptors at Hawk Mountain (fall is MUCH better) so that doesn't really coincide with thru-hiker season.

The Mt. Peter Hawk Watch in NY is 200 yards off of the trail on a blue blaze, just noth of Rte 17A. It is a nice place to camp, although there is no water, and would provide car noise most of the night.

The Raccoon Ridge Hawk watch is right on the trail in NJ. It's the same place where you can see the Delaware River from the ridge. It's just above a power station off to the east.
