I am planning a few days on the trail leaving from Kent,Ct north to Salisbury. Does anyone know what the trail conditions are? I emailed the AMC chapter in CT. but have'nt heard anything back yet.

I'm guessing a bit soggy, patches of crusty snow and ice. Just like what you've got right now in MA. :D

I agree, there'll be soggy patches and some rotten ice, maybe some remaining snow cover up to 2 inches thick. Actually I went by the trailhead at Bulls Bridge on Sunday and saw no tracks in the snow. I expect to be out there this weekend to do the section from Bulls Bridge to Kent. Friday's rain expected to end Sat. morning, & 40 degrees. Sunday will be colder. I hope this helps you.

Also, Kent is about the southern limit of current snow cover, so expect it to be a little bit deeper farther north unless it's all done in by the rain.

We Nutmeggers are in the middle of a string of lovely days - 50s and (dare I say it) 60s probably continuing through Weds. That ought to get rid of most of the white stuff, but the temps are on their way back down this weekend and next week. If you plan on bagging Bear Mountain in the Salisbury area, expect patchy ice cover and cold conditions. Take your picture with the giant cairn up top!

Also, Kent is about the southern limit of current snow cover...

I dunno about that. There was snow in NYC and in Poughkeepsie a few weeks ago when I was there.

Right, but I was talking about 2 days ago. There was also snow on my lawn two weeks ago, but no longer.

I'm hoping the warmer temps will clear most of the snow/ice up. Here on Cape Cod we have no snow at all. I'm bringing my Yaktraxs just in case.

Was just there this past weekend and there was lots of hard ice on the trails,Ended up breaking my yaktraks sliding on the ice.

The weather this week looks warm with rain and possible snow this coming weekend.

You may want to take the lower trail to avoid the st.johns ledges,It should be doable after that.

I will be with my Girl Scouts around Colebrook this weekend. Am hoping from some psuedo-, if not actually- spring like weather! Although I hear it will be wet!

I assume everyone's now heard the weather forecast for this area in the next couple of days: Rain, then sleet, then snow, perhaps 6" to 12" depending on elevation, ending mid-day Saturday. Temps in thirties until Sunday, when tems should rise to 40.

Yesterday the AT near the Elbow Trail (a mile or so from Mt. Everett) was a muddy river with an ice covered bottom in patches and wet slushy snow up to several feet deep in other places. A lot of snow still around except where it was getting washed away. But tonight it will freeze and then get topped off with 8 or more inches of new snow by Sat. Not sure how far south the snow will go but I think you can expect an icy trail on the ridges in CT at best. I used yak trax yesterday.

I guess I will be putting this trip off for a week or two. We had no snow all winter AND now we get it!

Coming down pretty hard here in the west Boston burbs... about four or five inches of light stuff so far, no sign of letup, temp holding at 20 degrees.

Just got in from snowblowing 8+ inches. Drove my son over to his friends and the roads are terrible. The state police are advising everyone to stay off the roads. Apparently, there are a number of tractor trailer accidents on the highways. Nice night for a fire ... in the indoor fireplace! I hope the girl scouts rescheduled their trip.

Well I'm hoping the 1st or 2nd week in April will have better weather. It is sleeting out now on Cape Cod. The only good thing about this is a get an extra day by hiking in April!

My daughter and I went out for a 9-miler around lunchtime and the footing was so horrendous it took almost 2 hours! Like running on sand! Even the psycho drivers were being careful, for the most part.

We're re-scheduled for two weeks hence. Discretion being the better part of you know what! Happy weekend all (Nutmeggers too)!

Go the Nutmeggers! :) I heard that this is the longest sleet event that's been recorded...12+ hours straight. Fun in CT!

I hope the next few weeks bring warmer weather. I'm now planning the 1st or 2nd week of April. Can some of you keep me posted on the conditions in Ct.?
