Is it safe (or close enough) to pick up my summer gear at Damascus around Trail Days?

Thanks in advance...

you really should wait till Bland or Pearisburg. that's what most do.

I second the Bland/Pearisburg cutover to lighter weight clothing and gear.

I switched out in Pearisburg in 2003 and there were some times I wish I had waited longer.

I switched from my regular sleeping bag in Waynesboro, VA and went with a $5 fleece blanket from Kmart until Glencliff, NH. In a tent I was fine, in a shelter I also threw my tent over me and was fine.

There was snow at Mt. Rogers (after Damascus) on May 16, 06. Winter gear out at Pearisburg and back in at Glencliffe is my recommendation as well.

I did Perisburg and Hanover for my switches. A switch doesn't have to be complete, you might keep a some sort of warm top and hat. I remember a cold spell in Mass and VT. in August. No matter what you do it will never be 100% correct. Trail weather has a way of knowing what you do and throwing a curve at you.
