I am looking for an inexpensive lightweight camera to replace my Fuji Finepix. The current camera weighs in at 13 ounces.

My wife and I were at Wal-Mart and noticed some "Key Chain" cameras for $15. Has anybody tried these? I realize that they do not hold that much memory or probably take the greatest images. But are they adequate for capturing the memories from a weekend hike? Just let me know what you thoughts and suggestions are.

Thanks in advance,

Todd Heyn

I've had a camera that small and from looking a walmart's site, its only 1.3 megapixals just like mine was. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5141144 It looks a tiny bit more advanced than the one i had, but its still not worth it.
Its too small to hold steady, so even if you do get the right light the picture will be blurry from shaking, second outdoors is often too bright and indoors way too dark, third even if you have the right light and can hold it steady, its so thin, you can look through the view finder all you want, it will still be hard to aim, because the just the slightest tilt and you cut off half of the shot you wanted.
But if you want some blurry abstract photos its perfect!!!!

you might have better luck w/ disposables, they don't weigh much, much better quailty than that, just mail them back home, and get them put on a disk when you have them developed, it will be like you had a digital camera with you the whole time.

The one I've seen is completely useless crap. YMMV

There are small, inexpensive digicams now that weigh 4 or 5 ounces or so. Below a certain size (as others have noted) I'd be worried about holding the camera securely enough for a good shot.

My worst enemy deserves a better than the camera than you described. The memory is violatable. Remove the battery and bye bye picts. If you are worried about budget a waterproof desposible film camera will do.:-?

There is a model just under $40 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5614773) that might be your answer - 3MP (not great, but adequate) and uses either 16 MB RAM (internal storage) or SD media card (you provide card) for storage. The media card would solve the problem of losing pics when the battery went dead. Weighs 15 gms (about 1/2 oz)

BTW, the $15 camera also supports the use of memory cards.

One of my (many) grandkids has one. It has no zoom and no ability to alter autofocus and shutter speed. For just general pics, it works OK.
