:eek:I was out camping last weekend in south Florida and my sleep was interupted by a 8-9' gator. I was hanging about 20 feet from a canal and I guess he decided that was to close to his home and he was gonna let me know about it.

It let out this real loud growl and then started bellowing at about 10 feet away.

Luckly my truck was parked pretty close by so in one motion I unzipped my hammock, grabbed my sleeping bag and jumped from the hammock to my truck.

And slept the rest of the night in my truck:D

Wise move ! used to play in the glades back in the 70's and have been chased once or twice by a gator. Never have been danglin in a hammock above one of them though !!

Tom Hennessy developed his hammocks when he was in the FL swamps. Hang very high.

Yeah next time I will climb the trees and hang in the tree tops.

I've been around gators all my life and that is the first time one has made me run scared. Just glad I wasn't out in the middle of the swamp with no truck to hide in:p

I once heard them referred to as "Bear Pinatas"

I've been a bear pinata in mine...

Black Bear walked underneath me and woke me up as it rubbed against my back with his back....

never thought of it as a food bag though... Guess this is why i dont camp in the 'glades
