While traveling home from WV to AL yesterday, I stopped and visited the trail where it crosses I-81 near Wytheville. Less than 100yards from the point where the trail leaves the road and heads back into the woods, there is a Coldwell Banker For Sale sign. I remember a thread from a few weeks ago where somebody was looking for some land along the AT. This would be my choice if I could live anywhere along the trail. The beauty of the Great Valley of the Appalachians, relatively isolated and lightly traveled.

Which begs another question of you experts. Is the SW Va area of the trail the last part of the trail that is not overused, or is there another, more remote section?

Georgia. Since it is the first state, most hikers may focus on other memories, but the trail in GA is about as remote as you will get until ME.

The GA section is heavily used. I would not call it remote in terms of use.

I was focused more on the remote part as opposed to the heavily used part.
