I am leaving Amicalola Falls in mid May. I have a 40 degree down sleeping bag along with a tent and mat. Do you think my sleeping bag is to light for mid May in that area? Should I bring a sleeping bag liner to be on the safe side and ship it home later into the trip? My goal is to get to Hot Springs before the 4th of July.

You'll probably be fine. A 40 degree bag, in a tent, should be fine.

Yea your fine just pack a nice fleece shirt. If your worried at all take cheap fleece gloves and tobogun and use rain gear for second layer if it gets cold.

The 40 should work just fine. Just bring along some sensible clothing.
