baltimore jack tarlin and the dude. two of the most notorious outlaws in the east. loved by women, feared by barowners. they once emptyed a town of its liquor and eloped with all their women. the town has since been renamed "hasnone". of the 636 known broken hearts littering these mens past, at least 231 are still in hot pursuit. its said that when they need supplys they disguise themselves as nuns so as not to cause comotions in town. sherif goodhouse of littlestick georgia was quoted as having said they have women in every trailtown who bath and feed and hide them. its impossible to stop them . goodhouse predicts in a few seasons most of the AT corrider will be populated with the offspring of these two don wons.

I saw B. Jack yesterday (Friday April 6th) at Mountain Crossings, right around noon.
I saw him there saturday at about the same time.
And Sunday.
Good to see those two, and all the other hikers of course.
The area and shelter are quite busy. We set up tents, resupply water and head to the main camp area to eat and enjoy the fire. It's quite busy and a trail 'legend' Baltimore Jack is holding court. He is cooking a mountain of food and spinning stories a mile a minute. If I was not so tired I might have stayed on to hear a few more, but I am wrecked. Still trying to get used to the altitude and physical demands. Sleep comes slow and cold.

Rock is right about our pace; we took some extra time at Neel Gap and had a wonderful time, Winton and his staff are great people. We expect to bump our average up this week as the terrain gets easier and the weather improves.

Quick Franklin report.....town is FULL of hikers, it's been cold and wet; they're calling for 60 MPH winds up on the ridge so a bunch of folks are talking about staying over. Poor Ron Haven has been doing nothing but driving, he just left to take some folks out to Winding Stair. Looking forward to spending some time with him when he slows down a bit. Otherwise, all's well with Bfitz and myself (so well for him that he' still asleep!). We're not making the mileage we expected but it's still early, things should improve once we get into and past the Smokies, and the knee is cranky but otherwise doing its job.
Anyway, hope all's well in Whiteblaze-land. Oh, and Wolf had a point....the steak on the buffet at the Prime Sirloin was indeed worth hiking 19 and a half miles for, and it is to be regretted that we can't take this establishment along with us.

one reason jack and brendan are hiking is to get away from their city selves. by now, there good old selves have made a reappearence. soon, there good old selves will get strong and shake off the sluggishness of being hidden away. soon they will beat their city selves into submission so intensly that they wont reappear till about a month after katadhin.but tonight let the good old selves out to play! their all pumped up in a cool ron havenesk town with weather as an excuse . do we really need to go into the fact that franklin has everything a hungry hiker could want all conveinently clustered around ron and his wife?

Haven't seen Tricks, he was off to Damascus last I spoke to him, but that was a while ago, he's probly back in Philly by now. We'll see him at trail-days fer sure, as always.
