Story Spring Shelter is located right on the trail. Is a standard shelter that sleeps about eight. It's only a few miles from the road, so it had a lot of junk lying around it unforunately. Privy is in excellent shape, one of the best I've seen. Water is located just north of the shelter, right on the AT. There is a picnic table right outside the shelter.

There are quite a few tent sites around the shelter, most of which have fire rings (though I'm not really sure if they are supposed to.) My hiking buddy and I tented out there last night, as there was a large college orientation group already in the shelter by the time we got there.

I was up at Story Spring this past weekend with a group of CT GMC members (www.conngmc.com (http://www.conngmc.com)) doing trail and shelter maintenance. The shelter is in good shape. We replaced a damaged board on the picnic table, cleaned out the fire-pit, and generally tidied up the area. The trail north from the shelter to the Arlington - West Wardsboro Rd was re-blazed in both directions, and some brush cutting and drainage clearing was also done.

There were, if we counted correctly, 29 people camped in and around the shelter on Friday night, and about 15 on Saturday night.

I was one of the Friday night crowd (2 adults and a teenager). Did not check out the shelter because it was filled with hikers. The spring was quiet lovely. Thanks afrrreeman for your maintenace work. It is greatly appreciated.

Chuck did finally catch up to us at the end of the day at Goddard Shelter.

BTW. What is the name of the man from Hamden, CT (works at Yale, statistician)? I wanted to contact him. Thanks.

The Ct. chapter of the GMC did a weekend maintenance trip at the shelter, 3 miles south, and north to the forest service road. The shelter and it's surroundings are in good shape. Allot of blow downs were cleared going south. And the flies were out in the afternoon. A nice trip. Mark S.

The CT section of the GMC was at Story Spring Shelter this past weekend for maintenance. Shelter and privy are clean and in good shape. Blazed and cleaned/brushed the trail from KS road to the shelter. Not too many people out there. Rained Sunday so home we went.
