Safe parking, NY 55, Poughquag?

I'm picking out possible hikes and was hoping that we could park a car here (NY 55, near the town of Poughquag) for about a week. The guide book says there is a designated parking area here. Has anyone had any experience, both good or bad that you might be willing to share? How many cars does this area hold?

I guess I might as well ask, if there are any motels in this area? My old Companion lists one, but maybe more have sprung up?

I stayed at the Pine Grove Motel during my thru in September, 2005. It was the single worst motel room I have ever experienced. Additionally, the owner/manager told me that he did not like to host hikers. If you have other options, I suggest you explore them.
