I am so proud to get a chance to share this photo with my Whiteblaze friends.I seen this 20 ft away20 feet is probably close enough. BTW, you can include me in the crowd that would pack their drawers with brownies if I ran into that critter.

good sized one - I am however somewhat surprised you were able to get to within 20 feet of it - not generally a good sign - most of the ones I see take off running as soon as they hear me

Ron,

Where in the gap did you see this lovely creature? Close to the road or up Rocky Mountain?

I sat on top of Rocky for several hours on Easter Sunday giving out Mother Nature's Peppermint Patties but I only ran into one hiker...:sun and it wasn't wearing a fur coat.

I had heard there was a bear in the area and as I was carrying a daypack full of strong smelling candy I kept my eye out.

I hope you plan on getting that framed and hung in a prominent place for all to see that visit. I too am surprised that it let you get so close without either huffing at you or turning tail and heading in the opposite direction. The only bear encounter I had that was not a view of a rump was in SNP and it about scared the begeezus out of me. Totally unexpected at the time.
