This is a new bed and breakfast opening up.
Owneres, Terry Kammer (trail name "Bunion") and his wife Sissy have been busy renovating their 1903 Victorian home for their opening on May 14, 2007.
The Inn is located on the Appalachian Trail in downtown Damascus directly across from the library.

Pirate and I had dinner with Terry and Sissy a couple of weeks ago. Their rooms are awesome. The whole house is beautiful. Check 'em out for a quiet alternative to hostels.
Do you know what the price range will be for a room there ?

Hiker hostels cost under 30.00 a night. Anything higher is a motel/hotel.

Given that you admit that this place is in the hotel category, rather than a hiker hostel (e.g., a place hikers will particularly want to patronize), why did you mention it? There are a zillion hotels/motels near the AT, which hikers mostly pass by in favor of hostels. Last I heard, there are two hostels in your town for hikers; as those would be far more likely to be used by LD hikers, why not discuss them instead?

The price quoted is actually pretty reasonable for a B and B. The web site doesn't seem to be directed toward hikers but to people who might just want to enjoy the area and its amenities. I generally find hotels more practical, but my wife and I like to stay at B and B's just as a change of pace. I'd consider staying there if I was going to be in Damascus. I appreciate the information about the place.
Sounds about like the place me and my wife stayed at in Hot Springs: The Duckett House. Real nice, old house with very well done rooms. Bed and Breakfast rates around 80.00-125.00. I think they had a bunkhouse and hiker rates.

This forum is "Hostels & Lodging in VA & WV". Last I checked, lodging includes motels, hotels, and bed'n'breakfasts. Why are you b'tchin? It's pretty easy not to post in, or even read, a topic that doesn't interest you.

this is a hostels and LODGING thread. B&Bs are considered LODGING. contrary to what you think you know, MANY hikers patronize B&Bs in this town
MS, only you and your group that you came to know out on the trail knows the ins and outs of lodging preferences and you undoubtedly chose the way that your budget could handle.
There are hikers apart from you and your group that do enjoy the same services at a different price. You get what you pay for at Agustas Appalachian Inn.
I've stayed at one or two B&B's along the trail like the Duckette House, Elmers and maybe one or two up north. My budget allowed me this nicety and the price was right and the experience was great.

More short term hikers than LD hikers.
When I'm on vacation with wife and kids the last place I'd want to stay would be a hostel. No interest in sleeping on the floor and waiting to use a filthy shower.
I'll take a clean room with a bed and hopefully a pool.
Minnesota Smith just didn't have enough bran in his diet the last couple days. Ignore his orneryness. Or maybe he just can't grasp the concept of different strokes for different folks.
BTW, Augusta's looks like a nice addition to Damascus. Many of us have passed that house scores of time so it brings back memories to see it on their website. Nicely renovated and the prices are in line with what many B&Bs charge. If they do have weekday hiker rates all the better.

Seriously, different strokes for different folks...I stayed at another B&B in Damascus on my last nike a few years ago....enjoyed the heck outta it too!!

Wow! I don't think a single one of these establishments existed when I first saw Damascus just 15 short years ago. Y'all are your own Growth Industry.
It's the only way to save Pretty, very old, well built houses. I, for one, salute B&B owners across the nation! Thank you preserving our heritage with your lovely houses and simple tradition of sitting around a table and conversing.
