I got this tip from Backpacker Magazine:

Take cotton ball and grease it up with petroleum jelly, pull it apart a little and lite it. The cotton ball will burn is suppose to burn about 5 min.

I gave it a try yesterday and it worked like a charm. You can also pre-grease the cotton balls and stuff a bunch of them into a film canister.

works great for priming my old SVEA123 in the cold.

two items that I always have in my backpack..toilet paper and olive oil...best firestarter there is take a Little wad of TP and pour a little olive oil on it... burns hot and long....

Same thing with alcohol and TP.
