A group of us are planning a week or so outing this summer which will include a hike into a specific area of the "Rocky Mtns" to a location at which we plan to set up a base camp. Once at the base camp we plan several day hkes. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a day pack that would be light enough to use as a food or clothing sack on the hike into the base camp and would be great to use on the day hikes.

Thanks,

Take a look at a Gossamer Gear Whisper or Mountain Laurel Designs Revelation

I've been using the Flash UL for the last several hundred miles. Its weight is 10 oz and has more than enought room to backpack several days of supplies with 1000 cb/in. I like it and for $25.00 who can bet it?

I have a older model Black Diamond Bullet Pack 16L/976in that is still going strong after many miles, climbs, and shopping on my bicycle. The newer models look different that mine, are hydration compatible, and the weight is listed at 13oz.

I love my ULA Relay (http://www.ula-equipment.com/relay.htm#). Although it weighs 17 ozs, it is 2100 cu in, and it is flexible enough for day hiking and more. I have a lumbar pack, that I don't like when I'm carrying 2 liters of water, and 1000 cu in day packs that ofter don't hold enough unless I squeeze everything in in winter, and have no hip belt or sternum strap. Although I seldom fill up a pack I am using for day hiking, I like the flexibility of a little extra capacity at the expense of a few extra ounces. Comfort is everything. I have skied with my 3000 cu in Mountainsmith Ghost as a day pack, but it is really too big. The Relay is perfect for me. The new ULA Amp is onlhy 10.6 oz for 2,600 cu in.

Thanks for all of your help. I am going for a Golite Ion and put my name on a back ordered Flash. All of the recommendations looked fantastic.
