Was hiking section 5 in PA this past weekend and we ended up tenting off the Blue Blaze trail that leads to the Eagle Nest Shelter. Just before the spring on the way to the shelter there is a nice tenting area with a fire ring. There surrounding area was pretty much bare of under brush and a lot of trees were really scorched. Also there were remains of what appeared to be three tents melted to the ground, they were still staked out. I was there back in September and it wasn't like that. Was wondering if any one here knows what happened. Seemed like a localized fire. The melted tents make me believe that some hikers were careless with their fire.
