Didn't know he was closed. What was the reason? Hope all is OK. I had the best time there.

Wasn't very friendly to me & Jigsaw when we were there...we stayed @ the nearby motel....they were a lot nicer...(just my experience):D

I believe they were closed to accomodate a group of people who were there for a special program -- not AT related.

They were super nice to me. What a great place!

I would say top 3 on the whole trail for places i felt at home.

Fabulous place and food. The very first really nice place (other than downtown Franklin and Blueberry Patch) on my sections north. However, he still places third in the region to Miss Janet and Bob Peoples.

Definitely the best vegetarian food on the trail, though.

Elmers should have stayed closed. They gave me one price over the phone and another ($20 a Nite higher) after I showed up at his door.
Luckily there is no shortage of options in Hot Springs. But if you are willing to pay whatever is there whim and are into the animal (frat) house thing The Sunnybank may be just the right place for you.

I liked it. Elmer was cool. he didn't cook. made me coffee and we talked a bit. i was the only one there. come to think of it there was no one at any of the other hostels either ( except at Neel gap, swampfox and rocky were there) i never saw a price difference of more then 2-3 bucks anywhere, but my App Pages was 2008

I found the guy to be a miserable crank. He started out by handing me a sheet of paper to read, then before I could read it he led us around and when I asked questions he admonished me for not reading the answer on the sheet.
Then when we checked out he raised the price $20 since we were flying out of Asheville rather than thru hiking, even though I had hiked more than 1500 miles of the AT, more than most of his NOBO guests ever would hike as it turns out.
A crank and a nut.
